Our Story
Learn why we exist
Stanford House opened in 1991 for NSW residents living with HIV who are at risk of, or experiencing homelessness, impacting their health.
Stanford House was transferred to St Vincent’s Hospital (SVH) in 2014. We are privileged to be able to ensure the continuation of this vital program under the auspices of The Haymarket Foundation. This would not have been possible without the commitment and collaboration of St Vincent’s Hospital Network, the Ministry of Health, Sydney Local Health District, and Southeastern Sydney Local Health District.
Stanford House is a unique service that provides safe and welcoming accommodation. It supports residents in developing skills for independent living, reducing social isolation, and attending regular medical appointments. The program operates on a model of collaborative casework and health support, assisting residents transition to sustainable, independent housing.
The Haymarket Foundation will provide day-to-day support in partnership with the clinical outreach team from Southeastern Sydney Local Health District (previously ADAPTS and HOT), the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and POS Central.
Haymarket has operated an HIV/AOD Integrated Care program since 2008. This four-bed stabilization unit is located within our crisis accommodation service. Stanford House complements this legacy and offers a pathway from the Haymarket Centre to independent living.
