Sydney Homeless Early Intervention Service

The Sydney Homeless Early Intervention Service (SHEIS) provides short-term housing and tenancy support to single people of all backgrounds who require assistance in maintaining tenancies.

SHEIS services works to reduce the risk of homelessness from occurring by providing short-term case management support to people living in any form of housing, including boarding houses, public and community housing or private rentals. Assistance provided as part of this service can include support in managing rental arrears, assistance in obtaining essential household goods, and more generalised support needed to maintain a tenancy.

Support offered by our SHEIS program is adaptable, and can include brokerage, connecting you to appropriate support agencies, assisting with housing pathways, or weekly visits during periods of housing transition.

We believe that by maintaining safe and sustainable tenancies, we can help reduce the risk of homelessness. If in a suitable form of accommodation SHEIS will work with you to assess your options providing avenues for longer term housing solutions.


Service details

Opening hours: SHEIS is available from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Entry Criteria: SHEIS is available to single men, women, transgender, and gender diverse people over the age of 18 who are in accommodation, be it temporary or long-term. We work in the catchment area of City of Sydney, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Ashfield, Canterbury, Burwood, Canada Bay and Strathfield, but this can be flexible based on need.  We are an inclusive service that works using a trauma informed, harm reduction framework.

Accessing SHEIS: You can access SHEIS by calling the number below, by visiting our office in Regent Street, or by a warm referral from your case worker from an external service.  Admission to the program starts with an initial assessment of your tenancy support needs with one of our case workers.
