We’re bracing for a difficult winter

I’d like to introduce you to Bronwen.

Today, as you read this, she is thriving in her inner Sydney community. She volunteers, spends time with family and sometimes looks after her grandson. But it wasn’t always like this.

At just 16, Bronwen first experienced homelessness.

With untreated mental health issues and a history of childhood trauma – things escalated quickly. She stopped attending school and eventually moved into her first squat.

We’re bracing for a difficult winter. More people are experiencing homelessness and needing our services – as cost of living pressures continue to spiral.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation before June 30.

With no support network and no income, Bronwen had precious few choices. What followed was decades of homelessness and drug use.

Watch the video here to find out more about her story.

Sadly, there are so many people like Bronwen, with no support network to turn to.

Bronwen was determined to turn her life around. She committed to remaining drug free and to rebuilding connections to family and community.

After rehab in her forties, she arrived at the Haymarket Foundation’s crisis accommodation in Sydney’s Chippendale.

There are so many people out there like Bronwen, with no support network to turn to. Please show your support by donating to the Haymarket Foundation’s winter appeal, today.

Once she arrived, Bronwen was determined to turn her life around. She committed to remaining drug-free and to rebuilding connections to family and community.

Bronwen has strength and resilience that are hard to ignore. When reflecting on her story, she explains:

“It’s important to keep a sense of humour and to keep upbeat. If you keep pushing through – there are options for the future.”

Bronwen has built a solid community and support network around her and she’s reconnected with family – including her beautiful grandson. I’m thrilled to say that today, Bronwen has a safe place to call home.

About the Haymarket Foundation

The Haymarket Foundation is unique: able to deal with the complex issues that surround homelessness – including mental health, drug and alcohol issues and often disability and lifelong trauma.

We’re in it for the long haul – we walk alongside people who have often had a difficult start in life. We support them until long-term solutions are found.

While the work can be challenging, what keeps us going is knowing that being there in a moment of crisis can make a pivotal difference.

It’s not an understatement to say – your support can help transform lives.

With our deepest thanks and warm wishes,

Gowan Vyse

PS: All donations will be matched by a few generous donors right up until midnight June 30, or until funds are exhausted!
